Strong Shapes For Spring Summer 2017

Spring summer 2017 does not look like it is going to be the time to be a shrinking violet. Big, bold shapes and colours seem to be the order of the day, so suss out the structure and be brave – next season is going to be the time to embrace bold statement pieces and wear strong shapes with pride. Here are some of the strong shapes you can expect to see in spring summer 2017:

Shoulders From the 80s

Yup, those 80s shoulders are back, with big, angular, geometric shapes very high on the agenda. Slip on those jackets with structured shoulders and head back joyfully to that booming decade (which some might say that taste forgot) and just relax.

Fabulous Flounces and Ruffles

Frills, flounces and ruffles are not set to go anywhere and are bigger and bolder than ever. Fancy and fabulous, let yourself loose with flowing, roomy fabric that shows off flamboyantly. Even toned down a little for work, ruffles are going to be everywhere during the first half of next year.

See-Through Sections

Strong, geometric, modern designs with bold shapes are accentuated in many of the season’s catwalk shows by sheer sections that amplify the importance of shape. Cut-outs, sheer panels that leave little to the imagination and even see-through trousers all made an appearance.

Strong Sleeves

Sleeves are not going to be overlooked next season. The catwalk shows featured many different sleeves but the one overriding theme was size and bold shape. Oversized sleeves, flared shapes, bold ballooning and volume were all important to this strong trend.

Floaty White Maxi Dresses

The volume and shape continued with the range of floaty white maxi dresses from various designers. With all white outfits, shape and texture became more important than colour and the eye was drawn to the bold sculpting and the billowing shapes.

We can all look forward to an increased emphasis on shape and structure in the spring summer season of next year. So those of you with an eye on future trends and those who like to be fashion forward should take the change to analyse their wardrobes to see which of their outfits could potentially be adapted to create bold shape statements or to play with sculptural elements in new and interesting ways that will be fitting for the next season for work and for play, for every occasion and for an enduring sense of style.
